We are delighted to announce that Zicam has launched a new service. Following two successful installations of fire safety systems and an accreditation awarded by BAFE (the fire safety register) we now have our own dedicated, in-house fire team.

To introduce the service and to find out more about him, we had a Q&A session with our Fire Design Manager, Anthony Pritchard; here’s what he had to day.

Can you tell us a little about your experience in the industry?

I started off in a very different industry where I held a number of management roles for different companies until I was made redundant in 2004. Given this opportunity, I decided to go for a career change and had the good fortune to be able to help out at a fire and security company for a few months. I liked it that much I decided to invest in my future in the industry. I took several training courses and learnt from other engineers to gain the experience that started me off on this journey. From there I’ve progressed through the fire discipline from engineer to this most recent role of heading up the department here at Zicam.

What was it that attracted you to Zicam?

The role itself was the initial draw, but after speaking to the two directors, within a couple of minutes I knew both the role and the company were exactly what I was looking for. Zicam has a great name in the industry for efficiency and approachability. One of its central pillars is focused on making sure the customer is happy, they treat people well and deliver a high level of customer service and those match my own values. Also, I was given the freedom, flexibility and support to set up this new department and recruit great engineers.

Why has Zicam decided to launch an in-house fire service?

Zicam has always had a great reputation for CCTV, intruder systems, and access control. When the company decided to introduce an in-house gates and barriers team, there was such a positive reaction from customers that it seemed like a natural progression to do the same with fire. People want a great service with one point of contact for all aspects of their security, and that’s what we’ve delivered. We can now install and service CCTV, intruder alarms, perimeter protection, access control and fire all at the same time.

What is the benefit to the customer of having an in-house team?

Having all security systems with one company is, of course, a cost benefit for customers, but there’s also the benefit of time saving (no need to juggle multiple companies), the convenience of having one point of contact, and having one company that gets to know the customer and their needs. All of that wraps up to a top-notch service.

What do you and your team offer customers?

We provide the design and installation of a fire system bespoke to their needs and requirements and provide ongoing service and maintenance. We can do also do system takeovers if they want to switch from a different supplier. We manage that process for them so the whole experience is seamless and hassle free. Above all, we make sure that our service is responsive and personal.

What’s the process from initial call to installation?

Once we’ve received the initial customer enquiry, we’ll arrange a time and date to conduct a detailed survey of their site. Following the survey, we’ll provide a quote for entire project and, when the customer approves the quote, book in a date to start the installation. Easy!

What are you and your team most looking forward to?

Achieving success for the company and maintaining those high levels of customer service that people expect from Zicam. All the fire engineers have brand-new vans and kit, they’ve been trained to a high standard and we’re all ready to support our customers with the specialist knowledge and expertise they deserve.

Is your service available to companies of any size?

Absolutely! We don’t want anyone to think their premises are too small, or they don’t have the budget to work with Zicam on their fire requirements. Each company and customer is treated exactly the same and will receive the same level of care whatever their size.
